E-Girls E.G. Time - Album Review (CD+DVD Edition)

When people ask me who my favourite music artist is, I always say E-Girls. Now most people have no clue who E-Girls are and then I have to spend 10 minutes explaining the concept of the group and why it has so many members. I've been a fan of the group for a few years now but only got seriously into collecting their discography in the last year. A while ago, I received a copy of E.G. Time which was the first album that got me interested in the group. So now it's time to review this amazing album!

E.G. Time is the third full album released by Japanese girl group E-Girls. It was released in 2015 in five editions: CD+3Bluray, CD+3DVD, CD+Bluray, CD+DVD and CD Only. The limited edition editions included a bonus remix CD and a photo book was included in the 3Bluray/3DVD editions. I purchased the CD+DVD edition and it was the Taiwan release which was a bit cheaper than the normal Japanese CD+DVD edition . This edition comes with the following:
  • CD - 15 Track Album
  • DVD - Containing MV's and COLORFUL LAND 2014 Document Movie.
  • OBI
  • Lyrics Booklet
  • Taiwanese Lyrics Booklet

The front cover of E.G. Time has a girl wearing a 1950's/Varsity style outfit that features the E-Girls logos. The CD+DVD edition has a green colour theme and other editions have other colour schemes. Alternative covers were available exclusively in Japan that feature all the girls in the group. The back cover has a fun rainbow design and the contents of both the CD and DVD are listed. The CD and DVD have an interesting geometric style design on them and match the colourful scheme of the album.

Inside the case, there are two lyrics booklets: the original Japanese one and a lift out Taiwanese lyrics booklet. The original lyrics booklet is made of high quality paper and has the colour scheme as the rest of the album. There is a photo of the entire group in the centre of the booklet and all the members names are listed on the last page as well as their corresponding groups.

As I mentioned earlier, this was the first album that got me interested in E-Girls. One day I stumbled across E.G. Anthem - WE ARE VENUS - on YouTube and was just amazed at how talented the group was. Plus the song is absolutely amazing and one of my favourite tracks on the album. My top tracks on this album would be E.G. Anthem, Mr Snowman, Move It!, Highschool Love and Odoru Ponpokorin. E.G Time also features new recordings of the classic E-Girls songs Follow Me and Kissing You. The photo below shows the track list of E.G Time as well as what MV's are on the DVD.

The DVD is your typical J-Pop album DVD that contains MV's for the tracks featured on the album. But something that's different about E-Girls MV's is they are usually extended ones that feature their Seifuku dances which are all always mind blowing. Each song on the DVD has its own Seifuku dance as well as the full edition of the MV. If you've ever watched J-Pop MV's on YouTube, you'll know that the full editions aren't always posted and you only get a shortened edition . So it's best to collect DVD editions of singles and albums if you wish to view the full edition . The DVD also contains a documentary movie about the E-Girls 2014 COLORFUL LAND concert. It was an interesting documentary, I didn't really follow along with it as it had no english subtitles.

I brought my copy of E.G. Time from YesAsia and it was the Taiwan edition which is the same as the Japanese CD+DVD edition . I'd like to try to collect the other editions of E.G. Time in the future, especially the 2CD+3DVD edition as I would love to have the concert. Now that I've gotten into using Zenmarket, I will try picking up a second hand version off there. Most editions of E.G. Time have gone out of print on YesAsia and Amazon Japan but CDJapan has most editions still available. Here are some of the MV's and the seifuku dances from the album. Blogger couldn't link the MV for Move It! so you can find that here.

I already listen to Japanese music but it's mostly tunes I hear in anime movies and series and twinkle fantasia and dosukoi koi koi break it down from style boutique also I hear quite a bit on the Japan vlogs I watch of Noodlerella. Thanks so much. X

    1. E-girls are from Japan, so there may be some influence with the game and concepts looking similar. J-Pop is one of my fave genres and I'm not too interested in anime music myself. I don't mind tunes from DDR, but just can't get into anime ones.

    2. Hi Marzipanini E-Girls look Japanese but most the clothes in style boutique are inspired by Japanese styles so that would make sense j-pop is a really good genre I enjoy listening to girl bands from other countries instead of British one's like Little Mix I love anime music (Sailor moon Pokemon Studio Ghibli Yu GI Oh E.T.C). Thanks so much. X

    3. All the girls in the group are Japanese, but have a unique look about them compared to other J-Pop groups like AKB48. That's one of the main reasons I like them is because of their girl crush/power image.

    4. Hi Marzipanini I listened to Y.M.C.A (The E-Girls Version) it was fantastic plus the video wasn't like your typical girl band video where they are parading around half naked and looking unrealistic the girls looked healthy and wore normal fashions I think this style of video should be used by everyone their clothes looked like retrobeat and other style boutique brands clothes. I will be listening to them a lot from now on. Thanks so much. X

    5. E-girls wear more costume style outfits in their older videos which are quite nice. Yeah, most k-pop girl groups nowadays tend to wear minimal clothing but it's because the companies are trying to cater to a certain demographic. I do follow a lot of K-Pop groups, but I don't delve too deeply into their outfits and such.
