Rollercoaster Tycoon Series
Easily the best theme park management game by far, the Rollercoaster Tycoon games allow you to build your own theme park or work through pre-built ones in different scenarios. I'm quite fascinated by theme parks (especially defunct/abandoned ones) in real life so it would only be suitable to enjoy a theme park simulator. I have the three-pack of the series on Steam, but I tend to play OpenRCT2 and the third game the most. OpenRCT2 is a modded version of the game that tends to run more smoothly on my PC than the first one (it always seems to crash whenever I built a chair lift) and you can turn on some hilarious cheats. Mad Mouse style roller coasters would be my favourite style of ride to build as they are my favourite style in real life.

The Sims Series
Nowadays this game gets a bit of a bad wrap with all it's ridiculous expansions and prices, but back in the day, The Sims was the hottest game. I remember a time when a new Sims 1 game would come out and you'd go hang out at your friends house all day playing it. It was our multiplayer and we'd play it for hours only taking a break for jumping in the pool or walking to the local deli for some Paddle Pops and chips. Hot Date and Pets were the popular ones but when Making Magic came out, it used to crash everyone's computers. Sims 2 was amazing and we'd never seen expansion packs like it had before. Open For Business was my favourite and I would always turn my house into a entertainment venue all the time. I wasn't into Sims 3 at the time it was out as I didn't play much video games then but I have the expansion packs on Steam now and play it from time to time. Sims 4 is a bit restrictive with a lot of elements, but I like the realistic style and new in-depth features to the characters. I only have Get To Work and Get Together and I quite like them. Lazy Game Reviewer on Youtube has the best Sims play throughs and reviews, I always enjoy the silliness of his Sims 1 play through.
Disney Magical World
This favourite is an interesting one, I knew nothing about the game for years after it's release until I read about the second instalment in a Japanese magazine. I was interested at the concept of a Disney style game that was part RPG, part crafting and part collectable gatherer. Luckily after noticing Disney Magic Castle My Happy Life 2 ディズニー マジック キャッスル マイ ハッピー ライフ 2 in the magazine, the western version of the game Disney Magical World 2 was announced for release in a few weeks. So my friends and I each got copies of the game and we loved it! The outfits were super adorable and the quests were challenging. I picked up the first game Disney Magical World a while after and I'm still playing it today. The second game is much better, the first one has too much grinding for random items that never appear and whilst the cards are cute, I'm stuck on the last 15.
My favourite NPC in the game: Carrot Man |
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
We used to have a copy of this on our PC back when it first came out and I used to play on my siblings save to collect the hidden packages. I just liked exploring the colourful 1980's environment in the game more than missions. Now that I'm older, I don't mind the missions at all. I have the Steam version which is awfully buggy at times, but still a classic. The soundtrack is totally killer and the game has a wonderful story line full of interesting characters. Vice City would have to be the best GTA game for me due to the amazing open world, story line and introduced me to a lot of great 80's tunes.
Bully
Another Rockstar game and my personal favourite action-adventure game. I'm currently playing through the game at the moment and I'm still amazed at how detailed and immersive the environment is in the game. There's so many small tasks and activities you can take part in and I enjoy the classes you can attend at the school. But for me, the soundtrack would be the best part of the game. The composer Shawn Lee did a fantastic job capturing the atmosphere of the town and matching songs to the feel of each mission. You can get the soundtrack if you purchase the Steam version of the game and would be my top video game soundtrack. Bully also has some great Let's Plays on Youtube, I often watch NerdCubed's old playthrough when I'm feeling down as it always makes me laugh. I'm interested about these rumours about a Bully 2 possibly being in the making, I'd love to see a sequel after all this time.

Can easily say this is one of my faves with over 700 game play hours of New Leaf alone on my 3DS. I don't even want to think what Wild World was back when I had it. This game is quite special to me as I met my close friends through this game at a convention once. It's always a game series I can go back to and it's easy to get back into the game after not playing for a while. I played Wild World on the original DS for a long time then I moved onto New Leaf on the 3DS. I've played City Folk and Happy Home Designer, but couldn't get into them as much as the handheld town based ones. I've collected a fair bit of Animal Crossing merchandise over the years too as it's super adorable and the guide books are handy.
Katamari Damacy
Even though I've only played this one a little while ago, it still stuck with me as a favourite. I think the concept is rather unique, who doesn't love rolling around the world collecting stuff? It has a great soundtrack, Lonely Rolling Star would be my favourite. The game can be tricky and strategic at times, I'm not too serious about it, I just like picking stuff up honestly. I've only played Damacy so far, but I'm looking at trying out the sequels soon.
Style Boutique Series
Of course this one would be on the list! I don't need to cover this one much as I'm sure my readers have figured out that I quite like this one already. I've always been interested in fashion simulator games since I was little starting with the old Barbie PC games and early flash games on the Barbie and My Scene websites. So I was thrilled to discover the Style Boutique series when it first came out many years ago. I do think there's room for improvement with the series if more titles are to be produced as the developers love taking out aspects players love. But the games have kept me hooked for many years and got me into blogging my adventures online.
Cooking Mama
So this series is a love it and hate it deal for me. I've been playing the games since the original one of the DS which was awful. The calibration on most of the mini games was terrible and some were unplayable. But that's what happens when you first start out isn't it? The company worked out the touch screen features and the later games are much smoother. I've only ever been interested in the Cooking series, I found the spin-off ones boring or not as good touch-screen wise. I do wish they'd take out or cut down the side mini games (like the maths and house ones) as some are absolutely impossible and almost makes me break my 3DS when I play them. I'm yet to play the recent instalment in the series Sweet Shop as I'm waiting for a price drop. I usually buy the Mama games on sale because you are literally getting the same game each time so it's never worth paying heaps for them.
Plantera
I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this simple clicker game. I brought it once on Steam as it was on sale and the artwork looked cute. The game is quite minimalist, you just plant things and buy animals and work your way to upgrading everything. You also need to protect your garden from enemies such as wolves and bunnies. I achieved every single achievement in the game which was a first for me on Steam. I've clocked 56 hours of game time in the game, but most of that is idle time as you can leave it open whilst you do other stuff which is perfect for grinding up levels. The developers have announced they are working a sequel so super excited for that, it apparently will have a cat! I was pondering on what to put my last Top 10 game as and decided on Plantera as I was so enthralled in the game for ages and it's such a simple game yet so inviting.

And that's my Top 10 Video Games! There were so many other games that I love and grew up with that didn't make the list but we'll save those for another time. I'm thinking of doing a Top 10 Nintendo Games list soon as there are a few different titles to these that I enjoy. I left arcade games out from this list as I felt they needed their own special list as there's some classics I enjoy. What are some of your favourite games? Do you enjoy any of the same titles as me? Comment down below with some of your favourites!
Wow cool list of top 10 games and maybe you should do a review of some of them one day
ReplyDeleteMaybe one day I'll review a few of these, it's been a while since I played some as I've finished them.
DeleteHave you got Animal Crossing Happy Home Designer?
ReplyDeleteI used to have it actually, but sold it last month. I just couldn't get into it and found it a bit boring.
DeleteI've just gotten back into playing it last weekend, actually. Which I found quite fun - again. Can you tell me how boring it was and why you sold it? Please?
DeleteIt didn't hold my attention well, I did a few houses, the school and hospital and that was it. I would try to start a house for villagers and just got bored. I guess the limited furniture selection annoyed me, I like to have everything available (that's one reason why I've collected every item in New Leaf). I tried countless times to play the game again then one day after attempting to play the game and being bored again, I gave up and sold it on ebay with some other 3DS games to clear out some space.
