DIY Fashion Star - Nintendo Switch Review

A new fashion game was released on the e-shop this month called DIY Fashion Star and I thought why not try it out? I was able to buy it on sale for about $6 which I thought was reasonable. Managed to play a little bit of the game and have some screenshots to share. Now to be honest, this game isn't too amazing or a detailed fashion game but I thought it was be nice to share a short review in case other players are interested in it.

DIY Fashion Star was released on Nintendo Switch (in Australia) on the 1st of March 2024 throught QubicGames. The game is a single player game and can be played on TV Mode or with the joycons. It is rated G which makes sense as the game seems to be catered towards children than adults. I searched for the game on the Google Play store as it just screamed phone app game to me and turns out it was! It had different graphics but the mechanics seems similar. The character selection is pretty basic and there are no customisation options.

On the eShop, you can buy the base game or you can grab the Complete Edition. This version includes the game along with the three DLC sets. I brought the Complete Edition as it wasn't too much and having the DLC gives you more options to choose in the game which I found helped quite a lot. The DLC packs for the game are as follows:
  • Stylish Outfits - Unlocks more clothing items in the wardrobe
  • Glow Up! - Unlocks 2 hairstyles and 10 face-paint options
  • Arts & Crafts - Unlocks more clothes and patches in the customisation section

The main focus of DIY Fashion Star is to customise clothing items and create some cool design hacks! You can alter various aspects of clothing and show them off on you character. There are fun selfie competitions to take part in as well along with challenges for designing certain items from requests. Here is a basic idea of how the main part of the game works with this green top being altered into a summer styled top. You choose an item, trim away excess parts, add some designs or patches and viola!

Shopdo Visits - One More Time

A sad moment this week with the online services for the 3DS being turned off by Nintendo on the 8th of April. I cannot believe it is actually happening and I have many great memories using the service. Sadly with no online, the Shopdo feature in New Style Boutique 3: Styling Star and Style Savvy: Styling Star will no longer be functional. NOOO!! I've spent so much time on it and it was always such a big part of my blogs. So I thought for one more time, I would go visit some players on the Shopdo app and take some cute photos whilst I still can.

Starting off, I headed to the recent section of Shopdo and visited whoever came up. No idea if any of these are recent players or older uploads. Are people even still playing Styling Star online? Like I still play the game, but usually by myself. Everyone had on gorgeous outfits and it was fun seeing the boutique layouts. I totally forgot about decorating the boutique recently and how limited it was in the game.

Shopdo Update 2024 - The Final Collection

A sad day is upon us with Nintendo finally shutting down online services for the 3DS on the 8th of April. Unfortunately that means that the Shopdo feature in New Style Boutique 3: Styling Star and Style Savvy: Styling Star will no longer available. So tragic! I wonder how many hours I've spent on Shopdo because I've used it so much and it was a big part of my blog for years. It's shocking that it will no longer be playable soon.

Decided to upload one final collection in celebration of the service and to go out with some of my favorites! I went with three looks from my scrapbook as these are outfits that I'm proud of and been some of my favourite work in Styling Star. Maybe once the service shuts down, they can exist in cyber space haha. First off is a cute pink dress that was one of my ultimate items in the game and I was obsessed with these. One of the best items added in the game and I add my famous beret to it as all outfits cannot be completed without one. Second look is a simple girly look featuring some excellent items that were always a smash hit. Love these shades of blue and the denim look of the skirt. Lastly we have a glam/flirty look of course because I couldn't go out with a glam look. This image will never die and I will take it to the grave. It was impossible to decide on my favourite glam look from my scrapbook as there was some amazing pink ones. But I went with the purple tones as it felt very Y2K and I feel you could wear this in real life with current fashion trends.

You can find all these outfits at my Shopdo ID 0006271056 in New Style Boutique 3: Styling Star (EUR/AUS Region) for a selected time only! Pretty much only a few days as the service will be offline soon. It has been a wonderful experience posting all my Shopdo looks to the blog as well as my Shopdo posts on the guide blog. I'm kind of sad that it is all over and my very first Shopdo Update was back in 2018. That was forever ago and now we are here at the final one. I wonder how many updates I posted and it would be fun to look back at all the outfits I created. Maybe another time and anyway, I hope you enjoyed this post and come visit!

March Favourites

Happy to see the end of March as this month has been quite eventful. Lately I've been having a stressful time and looks like it will stick around for a while longer. So I haven't really been doing much besides playing Nintendo Switch or reading. Hopefully April will be better and things will improved. I will miss the warm weather though as we starting to head into Autumn. It is meant to be stormy the next few days which will be good as we haven't had rain for a long time.

Gaming

I have been playing my Nintendo Switch more than usual and I actually got back into Fashion Dreamer! During my last play journal that I posted that other day, I commented on how I was a bit bored with the game but once I got back into it, I found it quite fun. There is currently an event running and I have been enjoying taking part in that. I want to try out making some cute outfits to take photos in and level up the NPCs.

Another game that I've been super into is Pretty Princess Party which I totally forgot I owned! It got caught up in all the games I have on my Switch and I randomly decided to play it again the other week. I forgot how adorable it is and I love a good collectible game. Once I focus on it, I should be able to finish it in no time and trying to master that silly horse riding game. Never have been good at that type of mini game and I was surprised I aced the dancing one as usually I'm awful at rhythm games. Might post a play journal on Pretty Princess Party one day if I have enough photos. Maybe once I get closer to completing the storyline or collections.

Music

Finally brought all the items I could on Yahoo Auctions and I am currently waiting for the parcel. So excited to get all my Japanese CDs as they are unavailable here in Australia. Our iTunes didn't have a lot of the albums I was looking for and luckily I could find copies on Yahoo Auctions. The parcel will take a while to get to my address but I don't mind waiting.

Fashion Dreamer Play Journal - Finishing The Game Last Year

A bit of a silly title for this play journal as I actually finished the main story line in Fashion Dreamer last year, but haven't posted screenshots from it yet. So hence the name of this post and I should have one more play journal before I've caught up on my screenshots. First off how cute is this photo I took of my character! I was in love with this outfit and loved how the pink hair matched so perfectly.

This is one of the looks that I love in Fashion Dreamer! White and black always looks so stylish together and the long skirt gives it a feminine look. I believe I put a similar outfit on my character later on in the game. I have a billion outfit screenshots from other muses as I swear that is the only thing I take photos of. Sometimes I will take a selfie with them as well to commemorate the outfit and it is cool to get some points as well.

Aespa 3rd Mini Album My World - Album Review (Zine Spicy Version)

First music review for 2024 is aespa's mini album My World! Super happy that my local music store stocks aespa as they are the only current generation girl group that I collect. Plus it makes it super easy to find the albums and I always pre-order to make sure I can get a copy. It seems to fly off the shelves quick at my local store however if I visit the same stores elsewhere, you can usually find a copy.

My World is the 3rd Mini Album from Korean girl group aespa and it was released on May 8th 2023. The album came in 19 versions which is mind boggling. Who on earth would attempt to even collect all of those. I love aespa but that's a bit too much and I wish they would cut down on the number of types available. As mentioned before, I purchased my CD from JB Hi-Fi and I got the Spicy versions of the Zine type. I didn't know which version I would get as it random on what the supplier sends so I was excited when the zine one came (even though I did buy the other version later on). The Spicy Zine version comes with the following contents:

  • CD - 6 track mini album
  • 40 page Photobook
  • Trading card set of 4 cards
  • Photocard (Random 1 out of 4 types)
  • Poster (Random 1 out of 2 types)
  • English lyrics booklet
  • SM promotional flyer

I've been loving this style of photo book that SM has been doing lately. They are smaller to store on the shelf and the magazine concept is a fun one. This concept matched the vibe of this song perfectly and you get so many great photos in the photo book. There was just too many amazing pages to choose from for photos! I did get one of their next mini albums in the same style of photo book and they look great next to each other.

February Favourites

A few days late for the monthly favourites as it has been a hectic start to March. Didn't even realise we were at the end of February until I had to start writing March as the month. Lucky I have a job that requires writing the date quite often otherwise I'd have no idea what month it is. We had some great weather lately as it has been ideal summer weather. Not crazy hot but still warm. Love being able to wear shorts all the time and loose tank tops. Hopefully this type of weather stays around for a while as I'm not a fan of winter. Starting off this post with these cute stickers I picked up at Daiso recently! The store near me has actually been stocking some new sticker styles which is surprising! The prices went up to $3.30 which is kind of pricey for what you get compared to online whoever they are very pretty. I have the one in the middle in the colour pink but had never seen this cream colour set before.

Gaming

Not much happening this month besides playing random games on my switch. I've been super into the Faircroft Antiques series and almost finished my second game in the series. Picked them up during a sale and they are quite fun games. Plus I can get plenty of gameplay out of them over the course of a few weeks. Also been playing lots of solitare and random pet games on the switch too.

Music

So I ended doing something I didn't think I would do and brought some items on Yahoo Auctions. I wasn't planning on buying CD's from Japan for a while however I realise it was the only way I could get certain m.o.v.e albums. They were only available in Japan and luckily I was able to find the three I was after. Still thinking about some other things I want to pick up and will update when the parcel arrives. I'm trying to order albums/singles that I cannot get on iTunes here and looking for albums that are harder to find.
