CocoSori 愛しのマーメイド Itoshi no Mermaid - Single Review (Type B Edition)

Quirky K-Pop group CocoSori have only released one Japanese single, but it is one amazing single! The girls released their debut Japanese single 愛しのマーメイド Itoshi no Mermaid in 2016. I have a copy of the single so I thought I'd do a quick review of it.

愛しのマーメイド Itoshi no Mermaid

愛しのマーメイド Itoshi no Mermaid was released by duo CocoSori in August 2016. The single was released exclusively by Tower Records in Japan and was only available through their online or physical store. The single came in two editions: Type A and Type B. Type A only came with the title song 愛しのマーメイド Itoshi no Mermaid and the instrumental. Type B included 愛しのマーメイド Itoshi no Mermaid and the original Korean version of the girls Korean single Exquisite. I got a copy of Type B of the single and boy was it difficult to get hold of. Originally I ordered it through YesAsia as they had is listed as for sale. My order got cancelled so I switched to Type A, but that got cancelled again. Turns out they never actually had it for sale and it was only available through Tower Records at the time. Luckily I knew someone who lived in Japan and they brought a copy of the single for me which was absolutely lovely.

The single comes in a jewel case and only comes with the CD and a lyrics booklet. No OBI or photobook in either type of the single. The design of the single is beautiful and has a seaside theme to the photos. The CocoSori logo is printed in the group's style from that time period (the logo was changed for the Mi Amor comeback). The front and back covers feature stunning photos of Coco and Sori as does the interior of the CD case. The actual CD has a picture of the girls strolling along the beach. This is one of the more unique CD designs I've seen from K-Pop and J-Pop ones.

Inside the jewel case, there is a lyrics booklet for the two songs featured on the single. The lyrics for 愛しのマーメイド Itoshi no Mermaid are written in Japanese whilst the lyrics for Exquisite are written in both Japanese and Korean. The lyrics booklet includes some photos of the girls and individual photos of Coco and Sori. There are some credits listed on the final page as well.

Now for a review of the songs on the album. There is only one new song on this single which is the group's debut Japanese single 愛しのマーメイド Itoshi no Mermaid and the accompany instrumental. The song is a refreshing change from the girl's normal quirky out there concept and has a J-Pop feel to it. The chorus is catchy and has a sweet melody. Exquisite is the other song on the single and it's amazing as usual. It's just the original Korean version so no Japanese version of the single. I thought it would've been nice to have released at least one of their Korean songs in Japanese on this single. Here is the track listing for the 愛しのマーメイド Itoshi no Mermaid single:
  1. 愛しのマーメイド Itoshi no Mermaid
  2. 絶猫 Exquisite (Korean Version)
  3. 愛しのマーメイド Itoshi no Mermaid (Instrumental)
  4. 絶猫 Exquisite (Instrumental)

As I mentioned before, I got my copy of 愛しのマーメイド Itoshi no Mermaid from Tower Records when it was first released. You can purchase it now on a few online stores in Japan and Tower Records still has Type A available I believe. This single is well worth getting if you are a fan of CocoSori as it's hard to find and isn't available digitally like their other singles. There is no official MV for 愛しのマーメイド Itoshi no Mermaid but the audio is uploaded on the group's company's Youtube here which I've linked below.

    1. Sorry I won't be uploading the songs online. You can buy the CD still from some stores in Japan if you are interested in it.
