Recently the developers of the Nintendo Switch game Fashion Dreamer announced that support for the online mode of the game will end. Which means players will no longer be able to play online via the game's servers on March 16th/17th (depending on your region). I had read rumors of the server shut down online ages ago so I knew it would happen eventually. Honestly I am quite sad about the whole thing as I love playing online in Fashion Dreamer and most of the game is online content! Which is absolutely crazy to think like a huge portion of the game will be unplayable.
First off, I totally understand why online support is ending and the servers will no longer available. Running and maintaining servers costs money, resources and staff. The developers made a decision to retire the online and these factors would've contributed to that decisions. I've seen the online servers of another switch game MODEL Debut2 #nicola be shut down previously and I always thought that was because the servers were switched to the next installment in the series MODEL Debut3 #nicola. Even Nintendo themselves turned off the entire online system for the Nintendo 3DS and we sadly lost many Style Boutique online features.
I miss playing Fashion Dreamer online as I love seeing all the likes and interaction with my Muse from other muses. I barely play the game in solo mode and it's pretty much all online for me. So I'm going to be quite sad to see that entire aspect of the game gone. Making Lookits for other muses is like the only thing I do in the game! Most of my NPC's have low ranks as I spend zero time talking to them unless I need to for a fair event. Now I'm not going to see all the wonderful outfits other players create for my muse or view the items at the Pop-Up Area.
When I first saw the announcement, I was confused and worried at how you could earn e-points to create new items. I was like isn't online needed to get a decent amount to make items which is one of the key features of the game. Then I read in the announcement that solo mode will be adjusted that players will be given 30 times the number of likes you receive in the e-log. A nice trade off I guess along with the 13,000 creative keys. I take that as a hint that I should work towards actually unlocking all the patterns.
The announcement stated that players will receive additional game content once online is shut down and these are mainly items from the Limited Time Fairs. The items are listed in the announcement you can access in game and players may already have these if you completed various limited time events.

Crazy to think about how the game only came out less than two years ago (going by today's date which is October 17th 2025). And with the online mode ceasing to exist, most of the game will be unplayable. Personally I think online is like 80% of the game as the idea of the game is to interact with other muses and gain likes. It would be great if the price was lowered and the e-shop was updated to inform potential players that online features are not available. Surprisingly a lot of people don't actually play online on their Switches as I've learnt from talking with customers at my job. We always warn customers if the switch game they are looking to purchase requires a large download or has no cartridge. And a number of people will not buy the game as they don't use online so it is a factor people look for with games. From reading other players opinions online, it seems like online is the main aspect of the game people use and now this will shrink the already small community. It is also wild to think about what game content we didn't get such as the fashion shows
Looking to the future, I will keep playing Fashion Dreamer as I love how easy the game is to pick up and just make an outfit or two. I'm just there for the dress up honestly. The online shutdown will probably force me to actually rank up the NPC's. I will miss seeing the fun clothing items created and admiring the ideas people come up with. Of course I'll miss my beloved Lookits and I'll have to retire that specific content on the blog as it won't be possible next year. Just like the old Shopdo and that was a huge part of my blog for years. Hopefully with the chapter of Fashion Dreamer ending, we will get some new fashion game on the switch. Anything would be great as we are pretty limited and us Style Boutique fans are eager for a new game in the series.
To close out this blog post, here is the official announcement from the game developers and you can find more information within the game as well. The adjustments will be applied once online support has ended.
